About our Founder

With over 10 years of experience in producing these essential reports, the founder, Dr Chris Hewer, has held key roles including:

  • Named Doctor for Children in Care in Gloucestershire where his team consistently achieved near 100% compliance with the mandatory 28-day timeframe.

  • Medical Advisor for the Permanency Team in Gloucestershire.

  • CoramBAAF Health Advisory Committee member– recently involved in reviewing the Adult Health medical process

  • Collaborating with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health to set standards for Initial Health Assessments in the UK

Initial Health Assessments (IHAs)

Baker Baker Health offers:

  • Holistic, child-focused assessments: addressing physical and mental health, social wellbeing, and statutory requirements.

  • GP-initiated treatments: our GPs can prescribe treatments for common childhood conditions (eg. acne) at the IHA and just requesting follow up with their own GP; ensuring faster care, reducing carer workload and easing the burden on local GPs.

  • Improved access to Community Paediatricians: freeing up valuable paediatric resources for other critical tasks.

  • High compliance with mandatory timelines: aiming for at least 95% of IHAs to be completed within 20 working days.

  • Cost-effective solutions: Our services are cheaper than NHS Payment Scheme prices, providing significant financial savings.

  • Flexibility and adaptability: We work closely with local Children in Care team and other health teams to integrate with existing pathways. Baker Baker Health have developed a Health Action Plan framework which can be modified and tailored for your area.

  • Experienced and expert GPs: Providing high-quality, child-centred reports. We would be looking to grow connections with the existing Looked After Children team for shared learning and collaboration.

  • Supervision and peer reviewed: by a senior medical peer: ensuring reports are of the highest standard and continuously improved in line with the latest guidelines and evidence.

  • One-stop Streamlined Process: triggered by the social worker notification, we then efficiently manage everything through to report distribution.

Prospective Carer Reports

We are experienced in completing both:

Adult Health Reports (AH) Part C medicals

– completed using carers’ medical records, reducing delays.

Advantages of a centralised Adult health provision:

✔ Increased GP and Paediatrician capacity: freeing up local resources.

✔ Faster access to placements: ensuring timely recruitment of carers.

✔ Peer-reviewed specialist service: improving report quality and understanding of factors that could affect the ability to be a carer.

✔ Expert GPs who also perform IHAs: providing thorough, high-quality assessments informed by both adult health expertise along with an expert view of what the Children in Care require from their carer.

Adoption Medical Reports

– consolidating AH reports into clear, expert assessments of a carer’s ability to support young people.

What excites and inspires us ...

"A child in the care of the council looks to the council to be the best parent it can be to that child. Every member and employee of the council has the statutory responsibility to act for that child in the same way that a good parent would act for their own child

... Every good parent wants

  • the best for their child
  • to see their child flourish with good health
  • to be safe and happy
  • to do well at school
  • enjoy good relationships with their peers
  • To make the most of leisure opportunities, hobbies, and interests
  • To grow towards adulthood equipped to lead independent lives
  • Succeed in higher education, careers, and jobs
  • To be financially secure."
